Early detection of common dog diseases
It is very important for dog owners to familiarize themselves with the different symptoms of dog diseases. Just like human beings, dogs are also susceptible to dog diseases that may lead to death if not attended right away. Rabies is one of the more well-known among all other dog diseases. Rabies is caused by a virus that directly hits the dog’s central nervous system and spreads through the saliva. When your dog is struck by this virus, you would notice a change in your pet’s behavior and body coordination. The dog also becomes more aggressive. Parvovirus is another one of the numerous dog diseases wherein the symptoms can easily be detected upon hours of virus attack.
It is a severe gastrointestinal disease which causes the dog to be weak, depressed, and lethargic. This virus is said to be very fatal to dogs because they can cause death within 48 to 72 hours. The dog develops high fever and severe diarrhea often with blood and tissue. Parvovirus can further cause heart disease to dogs less than two years old and eventually lead to its death. Canine Distemper is considered as the biggest threat to the whole canine population among other dog diseases. It is contagious, incurable, and often fatal viral disease which is caused by canine distemper virus (CDV).
It affects the dog’s respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. On its early stages, you can notice that the dog has a heavy eye and nasal discharge, coughing, chest congestion, and diarrhea. On the later part of the whole ordeal, your pet could be paralyzed. If you have other dogs in the house, you have to secure them since this disease is airborne. Puppies between three to six months are most susceptible to this infection than other infected adult dogs. One of the dog diseases that directly target the kidney is the canine viral hepatitis. It also affects the dog’s liver and blood vessels.
If a dog is infected by canine viral hepatitis, you will notice his intense thirst, loss of appetite, vomiting, and hemorrhages. The disease Leptospirosis is one kind among the bacterial dog diseases that affects both human beings and dogs. Common symptoms of Leptospirosis on dogs are kidney inflammation, lethargy, blood clot, and low grade fever. If you think you are treating your dogs well by over feeding them, you are not. Dogs can suffer from bloat due to over eating. This is actually considered to be a serious disorder among dogs and must be treated with the proper medicine. These common types of dog diseases can be prevented if your dog has the proper vaccinations.
Be keen at observing your dog’s behavior and activities in order to monitor any odd behavior from them. When you notice something different from your dog’s daily activities or behavior, you must pay attention to the symptoms. Do not be too complacent because your complacency might lead to your dog’s demise. Have your dog diagnosed by a veterinarian to closely monitor his health condition. Having a healthy dog can give you peace of mind and healthier atmosphere in your home. Responsible dog owners will always try their best to spare their dogs from deadly dog diseases.
